Tale of the 12s
I went to the Mohegan Sun casino this past weekend and played a lot of Blackjack. I love playing Blackjack, and most of the time I win. But I’ve got one big problem with the game… I get a ridiculous amount of 12s.
This time, it was so bad that the dealer noticed. He started counting the number of 12s that he dealt me. Within a half hour period I had ten 12s. Most of them were 10-2, but some were 8-4, 9-3, even a couple of 6-6s. And of course, when I hit on a 12 I get a ten, so I bust. And if I don’t hit, the dealer winds up with something between 17 and 21 and I lose. It’s a no-win situation for me and it’s really pissed me off.
Another problem I had was with 10s and 11s. When the dealer is showing something less than a 10 and I have a hard 10 or 11 (hard meaning I don’t have an ace) I double. This past weekend I had five 10s and two 11s that I double. The highest card I got as the double card was a 4. What did that mean? After doubling a 10 I’d get a 2 and wind up with a 12. Or, I’d double an 11 and get an ace, and wind up with a 12. Or double a 10 and get a 3 or 4 and wind up with a 13 or 14, which doesn’t really help much.
All in all, I had a good time because I like playing the game. But if I was able to win more often, I’d enjoy it more. ;-)
